Notes: Treader is a small label run by Spring Heel Jack who may have one of the most unusual careers around: they began life as a left-field breakbeat outfit, found fame producing Everything But The Girl’s rather lovely Walking Wounded and then launched into a jazz/free improv career working with jazz luminaries such as Matthew Shipp, Kenny Wheeler and Han Bennink. These two covers date from this latter period, they’re low budget, but those gold embossed creatures are a striking mix of Christmas card and surreal.
i have always thought these were pretty cool. they kind of walk that fine line of homemade and professional. kind of like constellation records.
