Is there any reference to the French 19th century painter Théodore Géricault on the cd sleeve? looks like the designer might have been inspired by him.
I don’t think there is any reference to him. I like your site very much though.
The sleeve detail and back case look like the work of Ikue Mori, who did a lot (most? all?) of the art for John Zorn’s recordings on Avant.
Can anyone who has this CD please check the sleeve on information where or when the photographs of the severed head and limbs were taken or even who took the photo’s? I haven’t been able to purchase the CD but am dying to find out where the photographs came from.
I study the history of paintings by Théodore Géricault and there clearly is a link to his paintings. So if you have this CD and want to help me please let me know if there is any information on the sleeve.
Thanks!
Hello Monique, I will have a search. Unfortunately my CDs are stacked up all over the place and so it may take me some time to locate the information you need, but I will keep my eyes open.
According to the album’s liner notes, all photographs courtesy “The Dr. Stanley B. Burns Collection of Historic Medical Photography”. Also lists illustration by Mauro Suehiro, and design by Tomoyo T.L.
And I love this site; thank you for your work here!
Thanks for the information Steve and very glad you like the site!
hello Steve,
I’ll be able to find the photographs because of your help, so thanks a lot for sharing this information.
The photographs
The photographs are from the book “A Morning’s Work” by Dr. Stanley Burns. http://www.amazon.com/Mornings-Work-Photographs-Collection-1843-1939/dp/0944092454
