Previous Get Well Soon – Vexations Next Duke Ellington – Band Call
I’m just going through an enthusiastic re-listening to classic German 70s music (what some call Krautrock), Harmonia and the various Cluster formations mainly, I’ll get round to the likes of Neu and La Dusseldorf soon too. Why am I writing this? Just to express my love of this album cover in particular – the colours in the sky, the mic, the type – wonderful. Also much loved by me is the other Sky Records cover and the second Harmonia album…
I love these too, Colin, especially the Harmonia LP. I have all these as japanese “mini-lp’s” which are beautiful, but to have them in original mint(ish) condition would be brilliant!
“Cluster & Eno” is my favourite Sky cover, and a lovely album. “Old Land” is another fave. Harmonia’s albums, though full of great music, come packaged in some of my least favourite covers of all time… tacky graphics that say nothing of the sounds within. I wish to point out, for clarity, that they were released on Brain, not Sky.

Hello Robin, we disagree! Well, I do agree with you about the first Harmonia which doesn’t fit the bill of the music in any way as far as I can see (same goes for the Neu covers), but the Deluxe cover I included here does express the hazy warmth of the music as I hear it, I’m interested that you have such a different reaction. Clarification noted re Brain vs Sky.
Design can be so subjective. And this site gives us some of the best to talk about. Vive la différence!
Sky was not a label I associated with consistently good covers. But I very much love the pairing of “Durch Die Wüste” and “Wenn Der Sudwind Weht”. And, speaking of Roedelius, the “Selbsportrait” series worked for me.
