Artist: Kruder & Dorfmeister
Album: The K&D Sessions
Year: 1998
Designer: Update: Photography and sleeve design by Oliver Kartak at OKA_Lab (Thanks Dean!)
Type of music: brilliant dubby, dreamy chill-out mix for the sort of hazy days perfectly depicted on the cover.
Notes: This is the first post of what we hope will be many. Hard Format is a joint project brought to you by Justin (300dpi) and Colin (EleventhVolume) – it’s our place to celebrate the physical media we love. Due to Justin’s busy schedule, I get to make the inaugural post and thought I’d focus on this CD recently acquired from my local library for the princely sum of £1. Handled by who knows how many hands in its life of public service, it’s ended up a little distressed (in both senses of the word), but what a lovely object it is. The penultimate track on the first CD fails to play, but I think that’s just part of the experience. Shelved between other CDs, its weathered spine catches the eye, its worn surfaces feel soft and downy to the touch. All in all, it’s acquired something a talismanic charge for me.
