Reid Miles was a genius. Look at these designs and enjoy their exuberant sense of play and sheer graphic brilliance. A key element of many of Miles’ designs was label co-founder Francis Wolff’s photography. Oddly enough, Miles wasn’t reportedly a huge fan of hard-bop, the jazz form that Blue Note’s roster excelled in during his tenure. Perhaps, as others have suggested, a degree of distance from the subject benefits the designs. | |||
