Russell Mills has designed the covers for some of our favourite albums. His work is striking for its painterly approach to light, colour and texture. His multi-layered approach to collage is masterful too, see his designs for Harold Budd and Brian Eno’s The Pearl and David Toop’s albums.

BiographyMultimedia artist, Mills is known primarily for his influential book and album covers for Brian Eno, Samuel Beckett, Nine Inch Nails, Ian McEwan and David Sylvian, amongst many others. He has exhibited internationally and since the early 80s he has created numerous site-specific, contextually anchored, immersive multi-media installations in the USA, Italy, Japan, Portugal and UK. With collaborators Tom Smyth and Mike Fearon he has released two sound collage CDs as Undark; a third is in production with contributions from Nils Petter Molvaer, Guy Sigsworth Brian Eno, Sidsel Endresen, Chris Vrenna (Tweaker and ex-Nine Inch Nails), Steve Jansen, Bill Laswell, Gigi, Eivind Aarset, Keith Lowe, Eraldo Bernocchi, Hector Zazou, Ryuichi Sakamoto and Shinro Ohtake, amongst others. Live work has included performances with Nils Petter Molvaer, Bill Laswell, Wire and Dome and set designs for David Sylvian, Jon Hassell, Sidsel Endresen, Siobhan Davies Dance Company, the Brighton Festival and the Visual Music Festival in Lanzarote. Mills is Visiting Tutor at the Royal College of Art, Honorary Professor at Glasgow School of Art and External Examiner at University of the Arts London Central St Martins.
